Kate Shepherd LL.B (Hons) Chartered MCIPD F.Inst.LEX
Our managing director, Kate Shepherd is a charismatic employment lawyer who specialises in HR and employment law, both training and consultancy. Kate qualified as a solicitor, and before setting up KSA, Kate practised employment law at a senior level within a leading practice in the Midlands.
Kate is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, CIPD qualified, an Institute of Business advisor and mentor, East Midlands ‘business champion’ and operates as an HR director and board member for clients.
Peter Etherington is an employment law consultant and HR professional. He has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management from De Montfort University and a Masters of Laws Degree in Employment Law from the University of Leicester.
Peter is experienced in dealing with a wide range of employment issues his experiences includes redundancy (collective and smaller scale), departmental restructures, transfers of undertaking (TUPE), negotiating new terms and conditions with staff, management of complex disciplinary and grievance cases, performance management, absence management, tribunal representation, and writing policies and procedures.
Karen Teago practised as a solicitor for 10 years before joining the team at Kate Shepherd Associates. Karen has substantial experience in employment law gained in leading regional commercial law firms. Her blend of technical knowledge and practical experience enables her to provide bespoke training and consultancy solutions to KSA clients across a wide range of HR and employment law topics.
Karen holds a BSc in Sociology with Industrial Relations from the University of Bath, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the College of Law and an Advanced Diploma in Employment Law from the University of East Anglia.
Nicki is an experienced and practical HR consultant, specialising in operational HR support. Nicki provides HR support and development workshops to companies throughout the UK, covering a full range of HR needs. Nicki has substantial experience working as a human resources manager and a member of the senior management team with an international manufacturing company.
Sue West, BA Hons, Chartered MCIPD
Sue is a senior Human Resources professional with 15 years of operational and strategic HR practice in a variety of sectors including financial services, education, retail and voluntary.
Sue’s focus is on developing and embedding practical HR policies, processes and strategies for both start-up situations and to address particular HR issues. She also supports employers for specific HR tasks such as recruitment, performance management and talent management.
Judith Hogarth, BA (Hons) MA
Before joining Kate Shepherd Associates, Judith practiced as a solicitor for 11 years with the Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF) and prior to that with an international law firm. Judith has more than 25 years’ experience in employee relations and employment law in both the public and private sectors. She has a pragmatic and commercial approach to employment law and, as an experienced mediator Judith is passionate about the benefits of mediation having established EEF’s mediation service. Judith is also a highly experienced trainer and has helped many organisations on major change programmes.
Judith holds a Masters specialising in industrial relations from the University of Westminster and is also a Pensions Trustee.
Derek Eccleston M.A., FCIPD, ACII
Derek is an experienced and practical consultant, specialising in the provision of advice and training on employment law and employee relations. He spent more than 20 years in senior HR roles in a number of industries - local government, engineering and financial services - prior to joining the employment team of a prominent law firm.
Derek is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD), a Chartered Insurer (ACII), and completed an MA in Employment Law with Leicester University in 2000. He is a senior presenter and author for the CIPD and develops and presents public and in-house events. He is also a personal tutor on the Institute's Advanced Certificate in Employment Law. In 2006 Derek was also appointed as a recognised trainer for the Financial Service Skills Council.
Linda Moyler MA, CertEd, MCIPD
Linda is an experienced management development professional and has extensive experience in designing and delivering multi-cultural programmes throughout the world. The majority of these programmes use a blended learning approach, integrating e-learning and workshop activity.
Before joining KSA, Linda was head of company programmes for an international business school where she headed a team of faculty working on executive education programmes for major global companies. Linda retains links with the academic world and her current research areas are approaches to monitoring improved performance during a period of management education and the effect of individual learning styles within cross-cultural groups.
Linda’s focus is very practical and concentrates on how she can ensure KSA’s clients achieve maximum return on investment through the development of their people.
Linda holds an MA in Management Learning from Lancaster University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Amanda Riddle MCIPD
Amanda has more than 20 years experience working within commercial companies and specialises in training design, delivery and evaluation, to ensure that clients achieve results through people.
Amanda uses her commercial experience to help organisations implement fundamental changes to their business. Her key areas of expertise are management development, personal development, conflict management and change management solutions. Amanda delivers focused training solutions for KSA, providing long-term sustainable results.
Lucy has 20 years’ experience within HR and specialises in the areas of Reward, Recruitment and HR systems. She has worked with Boards and Executive teams in the UK and internationally to establish relevant and effective reward strategies and recruitment approaches. She has key sector experience in financial services and high tech industries.
Sally Laughton is a highly experienced employment lawyer and has specialised in employment law for over 15 years. Having been a Partner in an East Midlands firm she has first-hand experience of running a business combined with experience of guiding businesses through the complexity of employment law.
Sally is also a tutor on the Distance Learning LL.M in Employment Law at Leicester University and at Nottingham Trent University. She has a Master’s degree in law from Sheffield University and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association
